How does using my HSA/FSA save me money?
HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition.
Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in root cause interventions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does using my HSA/FSA account save me money?
HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than paying taxes on income and then spending it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in their health. An individual can contribute up to $4,150 pretax to their HSA per year, or $8,300 for a family (plus an additional $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old. Individuals can contribute up to $3,200 pretax to their FSA per year (with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed).
Are there fees associated with using Truemed's services?
There is no cost to you, as long as you are shopping with a Truemed partner merchant.
What are FSA and HSA accounts?
Health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses. If you’re unsure whether or not you have an HSA or FSA account, please check with your employer or insurance company.
When should I use my FSA/HSA dollars?
You can use your HSA/FSA dollars all year long. However, most FSA dollars expire at the end of the year, and unused money may not roll over into the next year. Make sure to spend the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31st – use it to ensure you don’t lose it.
Can I use my HSA/FSA at Holistic Health International?
Yes, if qualified. Simply select Truemed as your payment option at checkout and use your FSA or HSA card as you would any other credit card. If you do not have sufficient HSA/FSA funds, you can split your payment between your credit card and HSA/FSA card. Truemed is for qualified customers. HSA/FSA tax savings vary. How long does it take for me to receive my Letter of Medical Necessity?
Generally, it takes 2-5 hours. In some cases, Truemed’s provider team will require additional time to issue a letter of medical necessity based on the needs associated with an individual qualification survey. If you aren’t seeing your letter in your inbox, check spam, then reach out to us at support@truemed.com for help.
Can I use my regular credit card at checkout?
Yes. If you’d like to use your regular credit card, simply select that in Truemed checkout. After your purchase, Truemed will email you instructions on how to submit the receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement.
I don’t have an HSA/FSA. Can I still benefit from Truemed?
Unfortunately, Truemed’s services are for individuals who have HSA or FSA accounts (or plan to fund one during open enrollment). We encourage you to ask your employer for information on your HSA or FSA.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity, and how is this compliant?
The items in your Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity (“LMN”) are now qualified medical expenses in the same way a visit to the doctor’s office or pharmaceutical product is. There are thousands of studies showing that food and exercise is often the best medicine to prevent and reverse disease. Exercise qualifies as a qualified medical expense with an LMN. Food, supplements, and other health purchases qualify as medical expenses if they treat or prevent an illness, and a doctor substantiates the need. Your Truemed LMN satisfies all IRS requirements to make your wellness spend fully reimbursable.
I don’t live in the US. Can I still get reimbursed with Truemed?
Unfortunately, Truemed is currently only available in the United States.
Can I split payment between HSA/FSA and a regular credit card?
Yes. Truemed's Split Pay feature allows you to divide a single purchase between your HSA/FSA card and a regular credit or debit card. This can be helpful if your HSA/FSA account balance does not cover the full cost of your order, or if your purchase includes a combination of eligible and non-eligible items.
Why wasn’t I approved?
Eligibility for Truemed is determined on an individual basis and depends on the health information provided during the qualification process. An independent clinician reviews each submission and makes a determination based on their clinical assessment. Because these decisions involve personal health information, we do not have access to the details of why a specific application was approved or denied. If you have questions about your eligibility or qualification outcome, please contact Truemed directly at support@truemed.com.
I don’t see the Truemed option at checkout. What should I do?
If the Truemed option isn't appearing at checkout, there are a few possible reasons. The product you're purchasing may not have been added to Truemed's system yet, or it may not be eligible for HSA/FSA coverage. Truemed is also only available when shopping directly on our website and will not appear on third-party marketplaces such as Amazon.
If you're checking out as a guest on our website and believe the product should be eligible, please contact Truemed support at support@truemed.com and include the product name in your message.
How do I get reimbursed?
If you paid with a regular credit or debit card instead of your HSA/FSA card, you may be able to request reimbursement through your HSA/FSA administrator. In most cases, this involves submitting your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) along with your purchase receipt through your administrator’s online portal or claims process. Specific steps can vary depending on the provider, so your HSA/FSA administrator can give you the most accurate guidance for your account. If you need additional assistance, please contact Truemed at support@truemed.com.
How do refunds work with Truemed?
Refunds are processed by our store in the same way as any other order and are returned to the original payment method used for the purchase. If you paid with an HSA/FSA card, the refund will be credited back to that card, though HSA/FSA refunds may take longer to process than standard bank refunds.
If you have not received your refund after 15 business days, we recommend contacting your HSA/FSA card issuer for an update. If you paid with a regular credit or debit card, your refund will follow our standard refund timeline. Please note that all return and refund requests must be made through our store, not through Truemed. Truemed is unable to process refunds directly.
What happens to my Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) if I receive a refund?
If a refund is issued, your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is no longer valid for that specific transaction. However, the LMN itself remains active for the remainder of its 12-month validity period. If you make another qualifying purchase during that time, your existing LMN can still be used and does not need to be replaced or renewed solely because of the refund.
How does Truemed handle refunds to HSA cards that may have expired?
Refunds must be returned to the original payment method used for the purchase. Due to payment processing requirements and IRS regulations, refunds cannot be sent to a different card, bank account, or alternate payment method. If the HSA/FSA card associated with the purchase has expired or the account has been closed, you will need to contact your HSA/FSA administrator or provider directly to determine how the funds will be handled. Policies can vary by provider, so we recommend keeping your HSA/FSA account active until any refunds or outstanding transactions have been fully processed.
